![]() Others have had their bedsheets tugged off of their feet before feeling a child jumping on the bed next to them. Many claim to have heard a little girl giggling and running around the room at night. Guests who stay downstairs have witnessed several strange events during the evenings. Not much is known about the families who inhabited the home, but some of them seem to have never moved out. The property was passed between several families before officially becoming an inn in 1978. The Thompsons weren’t the only ones who lived in this beautiful home. Nowadays, guests who stay in the inn, as well as the staff, report seeing a Confederate soldier standing in the window of Room 132, staring out onto Jones Street and seemingly transfixed by the bricks below. He died shortly after inside his room in the Thompson house. He was standing outside the Thompson family home when a spooked horse kicked him in his stomach. Despite surviving the raining fire of battle, it was a spooked horse that ultimately handed the young man his demise. Their oldest son, James, was a soldier in the Civil War. The house was built by Joseph Thompson in 1847 for his wife Eliza and their seven children. What is even more peculiar, however, is that many of the people who lived in the home felt the same way-and they never left. Many who visit the home are reluctant to leave, drawn in by its Victorian charm. Located on Jones Street, “The South’s Most Beautiful Street”, its quaint charm advertises the historic and romantic feel of the city that visitors love so much. I had spent a great deal of time researching options in our price range, and I feel we received a great value. The Eliza Thompson House is one of the most beautiful inns in Savannah. We had a lovely time in Savannah, exploring it's beautiful squares, and our stay at Eliza Thompson House did not disappoint. The staff was extremely friendly and willing to help. ![]() On arrival, we received a 48 hour parking pass ($12.00), parked our car at a nearby meter and didn't use our car until we left. ![]() I never did look around upstairs at the main house nor at the courtyard rooms, so no info for those. We could access the courtyard either by going through the main house or through a gated passageway from the street. The bathroom was large and water pressure good, hairdryer and robes provided. Perhaps the lighting was a little dim, but we really didn't spend much time in the room. The furnishings were nicely suited to an older inn, but not shabby. The room was large, and had street-side and courtyard-side windows. And as I've never learned to "pack light", I was glad I didn't have to drag my luggage up steps! It felt as if we had our own apartment. I wasn't sure about the street entrance at first, but it proved to be a very convenient location. We stayed in Room 110, the Chatham Room, which has 2 queen beds and a street entrance. We met some very nice people and it was nice to share restaurant ideas, etc. The late afternoon wine and appetizer feature was much appreciated after a full day on the go. The breakfast was served buffet-style and was average, although the setting in the courtyard was lovely. The house itself is quaint and charming and the staff exceptionally friendly and accommodating. We stayed 2 nights at Eliza Thompson House and were very pleased. My husband, college student daughter and I have just returned from our first trip to Savannah. If you get it, you don't need to get the $12.00 parking pass!! We serendipitously lucked into this spot when we first arrived, and then again when I came back after having the oil changed in the car. Oh, yes: If you are really fortunate, you will get the one free parking space (without a meter) out front. All in all, an excellent choice for staying in downtown Savannah. Lots of juice, coffee, bread, cereal, however. The breakfast was not exceptional: The fritatta was tasty and sausage fine, but the fruit salad was largely still frozen in its serving bowl. Had I not wanted to try the beer at the Blue Moon, we would not have had to go anywhere else to end up replete. The food is real, not just something put out for the effect. The evening wine & appetizers and the later dessert are very classy touches. ![]() The bathroom was a little dark, but then one does not spend much time there. (A category into which we just qualify!) The room (124) was very pleasantly appointed, comfortable and with everything we needed. ![]() The B&B is very conveniently located: Once you park, you probably won't need to move your car again as all of the historic district is within easy walking distance for anyone reasonably fit. This helped turn Savannah from just a stop/see place to one of the most memorable visits on our journey. We were lucky enough to get the last room available on April 1 for our stopover in Savannah on our way home on a long trip to Texas. ![]()
